Student grants: The State announces an increase and a series of measures

The State has announced that it wants to upgrade the CROUS scholarships paid to students in order to restore purchasing power to those continuing their studies in higher education. A whole series of measures is also proposed by the State in the law on purchasing power.

This is good news for students who receive a scholarship based on social criteria. Among the emergency measures proposed by the State in a law studied this Thursday in the Council of Ministers, we find an increase in CROUS scholarships. These should increase by 4.4%, to keep up with inflation and restore purchasing power to higher education students.

The subject of the scholarship award system is also one of the major projects awaiting Sylvie Retailleau, Minister of Higher Education and Research. She also announced that this would be one of her priorities at the start of her mandate. This measure to upgrade scholarships should cost 85 million euros over the entire 2022-2023 academic year.

Student purchasing power: A series of measures announced by the State

The State has announced that it is proposing a whole series of measures to enable students to cope with this inflation. In addition to the increase in scholarships, higher education students will be delighted to know that the €1 meal ticket has been renewed. Thus, all students who receive a grant or are in a precarious situation will be able to eat for €1 compared to €3.3 currently. The government indicates that this measure could save higher education students up to €100 per month.

Another flagship measure proposed by the government in its bill on purchasing power: the possibility for students to receive exceptional back-to-school aid of €100. To date, it was reserved for parents in precarious situations. From now on, this little financial boost can be received by students, depending on their personal situation. In total, the State announces that 1.5 million students (out of 2.7 million currently) will be able to benefit from this aid.
