Great Place to Work: The 19 certified French companies

Like every year, Great Place to Work unveils its ranking of the best companies where it is good to work. This year, 19 French organizations stand out among the 150 distinguished in the Europe Awards.

Everything you need to know about the Great Place to Work label

Great Place to Work is the global benchmark for quality of life at work. This certification was launched in 1992 worldwide and appeared in France in 2002. The number of employees surveyed reached 100 million across 60 countries. Their mission is clear: “Create a better society by helping organizations become great places to work for all. »

Trust is at the heart of their approach. They explain: “It is on trust that we have based a unique methodology, which allows us to help organizations create an inclusive work environment, manage their HR strategy and improve their performance. »

But what actually constitutes a good company to work for? It is abouta company where employees:

  • Trust their management
  • Feel proud of the work done
  • Appreciate their colleagues

This approach where trust is at the heart of the employee experience highlights three key relationships: management, colleagues and work. This model is available in 5 dimensions: credibility, respect, fairness constituting the relationship of trust between employees and managers, pride and conviviality. »

Methodology followed by Great Place to Work

This year, 1 million employees from 3,000 organizations responded to the Great Place to Work questionnaire.

As in 2021, the Best Workplaces Europe ranking is published in partnership with The Economist which gives organizations the opportunity to share their stories and corporate culture. The distinguished companies obtained, on average, an excellent score on the “Trust Index” questionnaire.

What is the Trust Index®? This is a questionnaire set up by the Great Place to Work teams. It includes 64 closed questions, 2 open questions and 7 so-called demographic questions. It is anonymous and confidential. To be validated, it is important that a certain percentage of employees respond to this questionnaire. In 2019, Great Place to Work indicated that it was necessary to display a participation rate in the Trust Index® greater than or equal to 40% for companies with more than 5,000 employees, while the participation rate required for companies with 50 employees must be at least 90%.

On its site, Great Place to Work states that they are “ the only ones to use two complementary tools comparing the practices of the organization (the Culture Audit©) and the perception of employees (the Trust Index©). Resulting from more than thirty years of research, and in particular from a series of surveys carried out among thousands of employees around the world, they provide a double insight that we consider necessary for the attribution of a legitimate label. »

The Palmarès distinguishes 4 categories of companies:

  • THE multinationals
  • THE large companieswith more than 500 employees
  • THE “MEDIUM” or ETI companiesfrom 50 to 500 employees
  • THE small businesseswith less than 50 employees

To be included in the Europe rankings in the “multinationals” category, the following conditions must be met:

  • Have more than 1,000 employees
  • Have 40% or 5,000 employees outside the country where the headquarters is located

How to obtain the Great Place to Work label?

Great Place to Work is a label that many companies dream of. It is in fact an objective way to choose an organization that exactly matches the candidate’s expectations. The question of quality of life at work is becoming more and more important. New generations pay much more attention to work-life balance or to issues related to CSR or ethics than older generations.

To obtain the Great Place to Work label, you must meet two key criteria which are similar to those for the Best Workplaces ranking. It is mandatory to have a minimum of 70% positive responses to the Trust Index©, for companies with fewer than 500 employees. For those who exceed this gauge, the expected positive response rate is 66%. You must also display a minimum score of 10/20 on the Culture Audit©.

However, the Great Place to Work label is valid for only one year! This is why companies sometimes lose this label. A Great Place to Work 2020 or Best place to work 2021 organization will not necessarily be in 2022.
