At the heart of a humanitarian association of ICN BS: Latina

Latina is one of ICN Business School’s humanitarian associations. The members of this very committed association present to you how it works, but also their missions. Discover behind the scenes of Latina.

What is Latina?

Latina is a humanitarian association of ICN Business School. It was founded in 1999 and helps disadvantaged populations in Peru. She has been working for several years in the slum of La Ensenada, near Lima. Its mission is to raise money throughout the year in order to donate the sums collected to the Franco-Peruvian partner association “Mano A Mano”.

Every year, a group of students goes there to carry out this humanitarian mission by contributing to the creation of play parks for the children of the slum, by providing assistance to the associative restaurant or all kinds of products on site (pharmaceuticals, clothing, school or others). Our goal? Provide significant financial, material and human assistance to the populations of the slums.

Who makes up Latina?

This year, we are a team of 25 members, all invested and motivated by this issue. We are students aged 20 to 22 following the ICN Grande École Program.

Why did you integrate Latina?

We did not choose Latina by chance. Indeed, we found ourselves in the values that this association advocates: solidarity, diversity, mutual aid, kindness. In addition, we really wanted to invest in a cause that resonated with us. We knew that on our scale we could still carry out certain actions and we therefore wanted to use our motivation and our determination to help them.

How do you raise funds?

ICN LatinaICN LatinaSince the start of the mandate, in November, we have been trying to find partners who are like us in order to carry out several actions. First of all, two chocolate sales, in partnership with Leonidas, took place on the Nancy and Paris campuses. At the same time, we did gift wrapping in a store in Nancy, Oxybul. We were thus able to interact with customers and raise awareness of the association. Recently, we organized a sale of typical Latin American dishes in the Nancy area. We were in charge of their preparation and delivery. Finally, we try to do as much communication as possible by highlighting prizes to be won, quizzes, news, so that the association grows and people want to participate in our online prize pool.

What do you remember from your commitment?

Being in an association is a very enriching experience, from a professional, personal and human point of view. Indeed, we learn to work in a group, to manage differences of opinion, to organize and ultimately to manage. Everyone has a specific role (president, treasurer, secretary, department managers, etc.) and can thus develop useful skills in their personal and professional life. You also learn a lot about yourself, your personality and you develop your creativity by proposing ideas. Finally, we meet people with whom we share a lot and real bonds are created throughout the year.
