1999 ICFTU
Annual Survey of Violations of Trade Union Rights
ICFTU OnLine: Introducing the 1999 edition of the ICFTU's annual survey Being a trade unionist can still mean risking your life, your liberty or your job for defending legitimate rights recognised in international conventions. Although less deadly than previous years, there were nonetheless some 123 murders of trade unionists in 1998. Colombia, with over 90 trade unionists assassinated in 12 months, remains the most dangerous country by far. Elsewhere more subtle methods are used to silence those fighting for social justice. Every region has its own characteristics. |
