ILO Convention No. 87 on Freedom of Association
and the Right to
Organise (1948)

On July 9th 1948,  the International Labour Organisation adopted Convention No. 87 on Freedom of Association.   Convention No. 87 gave international recognition to the right of workers to form and join independent trade unions of their choice, and is thus the most fundamental of all trade union rights. Without this basic right there can be no other trade union rights.
