Brussels, December 3, 1998 (ICFTU OnLine): The following is a selection of next week's events. This selection has been prepared for the information of subscribers to the ICFTU's OnLine service, and does not necessarily reflect the position of the ICFTU.

Monday December 7: UNESCO is organising a conference in Paris to mark the 50th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which is on December 10.

Monday December 7: The six member States of the Gulf Cooperation Council are to hold a summit from December 7 to 9, to be attended on the first day by United Nations Secretary General Koffi Annan.

Monday December 7: The French national trade union centre the CFDT holds its congress in Lille, in Northern France, until December 12.

Tuesday December 8: The International Labour Organisation is holding its 14th American regional meeting in Lima, Peru, until December 10.

Tuesday December 8:The second World Women's and Ecological conference is scheduled to be held in Helsinki, Finland, from December 8 to 10. The conference is expected to focus on the 50th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, women and ecological health, and the emerging democracies of the former Soviet Union.

Thursday December 10: The United Nations celebrates international Human Rights Day, which seeks to highlight human rights abuses throughout the world. This year, the day will also mark the 50th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the end of Amnesty International's year long celebrations.

Friday December 11: The twice-yearly summit of the Heads of State and Government of the European Union takes place in Vienna, marking the end of the Austrian presidency. Germany takes over the reins on January 1.

Friday December 11: The first annual human rights film and video festival to mark the 50th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is to take place in Toronto Canada, until December 13.

Saturday December 12: ASEAN Trade and Foreign Affairs Ministers meeting in Hanoļ, Vietnam on December 12 and 13.

Sunday December 13: The second round of parliamentary elections is due to take place in the Central African Republic.

Sunday December 13: The people of Guinea will vote in the second presidential elections since the beginning of multiparty democracy in the country. President Lansanna Conte, who came to power in 1984, is seeking the re-election of his ruling party, the Unity and Progress Party.
